If you've wondered about the significance of those
"Eracism" bumper stickers you've seen, the
answer can be found just about every Saturday at 4
p.m. at the Broad Street branch of the New Orleans
Public Library.
The
word, short for "erase racism," is the slogan
of the group Erace, started by two women to provide
people of all colors a chance to get to know one another
in an informal setting.
There
are no dues, and membership requirements are a belief
in the goals of the organization and attendance at
three meetings a year. More than 200 people belong
to Erace, and between 25 and 35 usually attend each
week.
Besides
the meetings, the group sponsors volleyball games,
a children's play group and a Carnival krewe.
